Rebellious Unicorns Presents Qusic

Rebellious Unicorns is a Kelowna-based event production company, dedicated to leading positive change in the Okanagan and curating inclusive events and experiences that bring people together. A community leader in LGBTQ2+ visibility and advocacy, the company announced the debut of QUSIC, an online music project that props up Canadian musicians and brings exposure to an otherwise underrepresented group.

This innovative series celebrates the LGBT2Q+ community, which includes individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and two-spirit as well as a range of other gender and sexual identities. QUSIC features solo performers, duos or group acts, provided that the majority of the band and the headlining artist identify as LGBTQ2+.

QUSIC was originally developed as a live music series, intent on presenting a number of large concert events and multiple mini-tours across British Columbia. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person concert events were temporarily suspended. Instead, QUSIC debuted in an online streaming format, primarily highlighting the talents of emerging LGBTQ2+ performers. Circumstances highlighted the need to provide new ways to access arts and culture, and develop ways to support artists.

“QUSIC is committed to showcasing the talents of emerging LGBTQ2+ artists and paying them for their performances on our streaming series,” says Dustyn Baulkham, Executive Producer at Rebellious Unicorns.

“We are also incredibly grateful to Creative BC for providing the funding that allows us to produce QUSIC.”

QUSIC is streamed live on Unicorns.LIVE as well as on the Unicorns.LIVE Facebook page. And while the focus remains on LGBTQ2+ artists, QUSIC is an inclusive series for all music lovers, designed to bring diverse people together to engage the community and to strengthen connections through music. Through music, QUSIC will help to educate the public on queer culture, build awareness of the LGBTQ2+ community and break down barriers.

LGBTQ2+ solo artists, duos, or groups can submit their application to be part of the QUSIC line-up via the Unicorns.LIVE website by visiting the QUSIC page.

QUSIC features solo performers, duos or group acts, provided that the majority of the band and the headlining artist identify as LGBTQ2+.
