Simple ways to instantly restore happiness

Happiness is not the absence of problems, but how you handle them. It’s not attaching too much importance to what other people perceive, and true happiness comes from accepting and loving yourself for exactly who you are. With this understanding, you free yourself from the conditions and beliefs that others may bestow upon you. Although removing toxicity and other things stunting or blocking your happiness will have a great affect on your overall mood, sometimes those can be challenging and monumental changes that need to be recognized, before even put into action. And while great if you can, who has the time to create long or tedious habit forming changes?

We’ve compiled a list of a few things that can quickly restore your happiness levels and improve your overall mood:

1) Happiness is feeling useful or being generous to others. Caring about the happiness of those you love can have an immense benefit to uplifting your spirits.

Give a gift to someone. It doesn’t have to be expensive, shop at local markets, or make it yourself. Try baking something and gift it or offer to help out with tasks.

2) Happiness is being with the people you love; unhappiness is being separated from the people you love.

Make a list of friends, family or people you genuinely love to visit with and make plans with them. Plan a picnic, invite them for tea or FaceTime and craft together.

3) The sun and the sea make everybody happy. Step outside and do some breathing exercises.

Breathe in and out for 30 seconds, then hold your breath until you feel the need to take a breath, take it in and hold for 20 seconds. Resume normal breathing and feel whether or not you have a clearer mind. Go on a nature walk, enjoy the outdoors and sunshine on a local hiking trail, or enjoy a day at the beach.

4) Happiness is having a home and a garden of your own.

Plan your dream home and make a Pinterest board. Set up a meditation space and try meditating. Meditation is simple, there are a variety of techniques, but it merely means to focus your mind.

5) Nourishment aids happiness. Eat a piece of fruit.

Sometimes we forget how convenient and quick grabbing a piece of fruit for a snack can be. Peeling a banana or an orange takes just as much effort as opening a package and is way better for your body. Eat the fruit you like, whether that’s an apple, grapes, pineapple, watermelon, etc. Plus, water helps to cleanse bodily toxicity, so grab a large cup and drink up.

6) Happiness is doing something you love.

Do an old hobby you used to love as a kid. Colour, draw, journal, or read. Play board games and cards. If you’re by yourself, play against the computer on an app. There’s all sorts of classic games available.

7) Happiness comes when you feel truly alive. It’s knowing how to celebrate.

Blare loud music and dance. Go for a drive and explore stops along the way. Make it an adventure and celebrate where you live. Focus on experiencing the journey, not the destination.

8) Happiness is a certain way of seeing things. Rivalry poisons happiness.

Practice forgiving yourself for any shortcomings and tell yourself positive affirmations. These can be things like, “I am worthy of what I desire,” or “I love who I am.” Forgiveness can be a lengthy process, but taking daily action to release the past can assist in feeling better. Do not dwell on what happened, but try shifting your perspective. Recognize you had to learn from it and you’re stronger because of it. The past is the past, and that’s where it remains. Focus on goals and how lessons prepared you. Now, let the past go.
